Katherine and Nate’s story began at SMU, where they spent years as friends before beginning their relationship midway through college. After six years together, an engagement, and life spent between Dallas, New York, and visits with family across the country, they returned to a place that had long been woven into Katherine’s family history to celebrate their wedding day.
The Dallas Arboretum was more than a picturesque setting overlooking White Rock Lake. It was a place her family had cherished for generations. Her grandparents held memberships there, family outings often included afternoons spent wandering the gardens, and summer concerts overlooking the lake became treasured traditions. Choosing the Arboretum meant beginning a new chapter in a place already filled with meaningful memories.
Their design drew inspiration from classic East Coast gardens while remaining true to Dallas. A palette of soft blues and greens filled the day, anchored by lush hydrangeas, a subtle nod to Nate’s New England roots. Elegant florals, thoughtful details, and sweeping views across the Arboretum grounds created an atmosphere that felt refined yet welcoming.
Family remained at the center of every decision. Katherine wanted her grandmother to be present on the wedding day, making Dallas the natural choice for their celebration. Throughout their years together, Nate had developed a close relationship with her family, often spending time with her grandmother during visits home from college and listening to stories about Dallas history over meals together.
The weekend itself reflected that same sense of connection. Friends and family gathered from across the country, kicking off the festivities with a welcome celebration before spending the weekend together in the city where Katherine and Nate’s story first began. On the morning of the wedding, the couple shared private vows before the day officially started, creating a quiet moment together before the celebrations unfolded.
As the sun set over White Rock Lake and sailboats drifted across the water in the distance, the reception came to life beneath a beautifully appointed tent nestled among the gardens.Personal touches appeared throughout the evening, from a margarita inspired by the couple’s love of Mexican food to a signature Hillstone-style martini that paid tribute to one of their favorite traditions together. Their first dance was carefully choreographed after weeks of practice, while the dance floor remained packed late into the evening with family, college friends, and guests who had traveled from near and far to celebrate them.
Some venues simply host a wedding day. Others become part of a family’s legacy. For Katherine and Nate, the Dallas Arboretum will always be both.
