Some brides begin wedding planning with a venue, a dress, or a color palette. Mary Katherine Finch began with one simple idea: color.
For a bride who describes herself as traditional with a playful side, that vision became the thread woven throughout every detail of her wedding to Jiles Finch. From the lavender bridesmaid dresses and vibrant floral installations to the colorful stationery and half rainbow half diamond wedding band, the celebration felt unmistakably like Mary Katherine.
After years of long-distance dating while Mary Katherine attended law school and Jiles pursued medicine, the couple married at First Baptist Church in Longview before returning to her childhood home for a tented reception. The setting was deeply personal, with guests first encountering a watercolor rendering of the Camp family home on the invitation suite before arriving to celebrate there themselves.
The wedding balanced timeless Southern traditions with joyful, personality-filled details. Mary Katherine carried classic white calla lilies that perfectly complemented her sculptural Mark Ingram gown, while an extraordinary ombré floral installation brought her signature love of color to life. Even her bridesmaid gifts reflected her creativity, she spent months hand-stitching needlepoint pieces for all thirteen attendants.
While color was a defining element of the design, the Finch name became a playful motif throughout the reception. Tiny bird details appeared everywhere, from the custom cake topper to champagne place cards, while guests enjoyed signature Finch 75 cocktails and late-night snacks from the Finch Fry bar. Matches reading “Finch Me, I’m Dreaming” quickly became a guest favorite. “We did it on everything!” Mary Katherine said.
By the end of the evening, guests lingered for hours after the formal festivities ended, gathering around lounge seating and extending the celebration well into the morning. For Mary Katherine, that may have been the greatest compliment of all. “We just couldn’t get people to leave,” she said. “It told us we did our job.”
A colorful celebration, a packed dance floor, and countless thoughtful details made the day unforgettable, but what guests will likely remember most is how authentically it reflected the couple at its center.
