Breathtaking, Elegant, and Timeless: Madeline & Kurt’s Reception
When Madeline describes her reception in three words, she picks “breathtaking, elegant, and timeless.” It’s easy to see why. Between a checkered floor inspired by the Rosewood Miramar, ceiling florals, Baccarat-style chandeliers, a live illustrator, and a very full dance floor, the night delivered on every part of her vision.
Cocktail Hour: A Glimpse of What’s to Come
Caroline Events and Gro Designs created a cocktail hour that previewed the evening ahead.
“We wanted cocktail hour to offer a beautiful glimpse of what was to come at the reception, introducing elements of the timeless, elegant, and romantic atmosphere we had envisioned. They brought that vision to life so effortlessly.”
The setting did a lot of the work. At Rosewood, the lawn overlooks the ocean with the mountains rising in the background.
Some of Madeline’s favorite details were the personal ones.
“I loved having our bridal and engagement photos displayed throughout the lawn. Having the band positioned in the middle of the bar was also such a fun and unique touch!”
And for a bride whose favorite drink is champagne, one detail stood out.
“Champagne is my absolute favorite, so we had custom labels made for the bottles and a monogrammed ice sculpture to display them. It was such a beautiful and personal detail!”
The Reception Vision
Madeline spent months gathering ideas.
“I spent months creating Pinterest boards filled with inspiration, from candlelit lighting to ceiling florals. I wanted the room to feel romantic, timeless, and almost magical.”
The checkered floor came from the lobby of the Rosewood Miramar.
“The checkered floor idea came directly from the lobby of the Rosewood Miramar. We wanted to incorporate their design into the reception. It added a timeless touch. The stunning chandeliers and abundant florals made the room feel grand and beautiful.”
Caroline says the chandeliers were what first made the venue feel right.
“The ballroom has those beautiful Baccarat chandeliers, and with the candelabras from Gro Designs, we leaned into a French look in a neutral palette. We carried that through the china, flatware, glassware, and lacy linens.”
Details, Details, Details
The couple loved details, and so did Caroline’s team. Here are a few of the personal touches woven through the weekend:
- Madeline’s cat, Melania, appeared on matchbooks and cocktail stir sticks.
- The couple’s last initial, an R, was carved into ice for the cocktails.
- Custom chocolates and hand-painted macarons, made in the wedding colors and personalized with their names.
- Custom ribbon printed with their names and wedding date, used to tie off boxes and welcome amenities.
- Baccarat flutes and a matching cake topper, echoing the chandeliers overhead.
- Place card holders in two designs: a rose, as a nod to Rosewood, and a silver French motif.
“They were really into the details, so we brought in lots of little favors. There were a million perfect details!”
French wording also appeared throughout the weekend, including a French thank-you printed on the macarons and French titles on the wedding menus.
Art, Keepsakes, and a Nod to Alabama
A live illustrator captured a custom piece from the wedding, and a sketch artist painted five-minute watercolor portraits of guests as a favor.
“Having a custom illustration from our wedding is such a special keepsake that we’ll cherish forever. It was such a fun way to give everyone a little piece of our wedding to remember!”
Alabama made an appearance too, in the form of a chocolate groom’s cake.
“Alabama is where our story began, so we knew we wanted to incorporate it into our wedding. The groom’s cake was such a fun way to pay tribute to our college years and the place that brought us together. Roll Tide!!”
The Dance Floor
Madeline says the dance floor was one of the highlights of the entire weekend.
“We wanted everyone to have the best time, and they certainly did! One of the groomsmen convinced John to let him take photos on his camera, it was hilarious! Another groomsman jumped off the stage and crowd surfed! Unforgettable night!”
A Beautiful Weekend, Smoothly Run
Beyond the design, Caroline says the guest experience was a priority, from the venues to the logistics.
“The setting alone at each venue was jaw dropping, and it made for such a unique experience for guests. We kept everything flowing through the planning, the timing, and a wonderful transportation company, truly one of the best I’ve worked with. The teams at the venues helped manage everything, and my team was awesome at directing guests.”
The best part, she says, was watching the couple enjoy it.
“I personally love seeing clients fully immersed and enjoying each event, and they really were. They were so excited to see all of the decor come together, and they felt present with all of their friends and family.”
The Last Dance and the Grand Exit
When the night was over, Madeline and Kurt shared one more private moment.
“Our private last dance when the night was over was so special. Everything felt so real, and it was such a special moment to share together.”
Then came the exit.
“It was the perfect ending to our wedding day! The confetti was so fun, and the vintage car added that classic, timeless touch we loved throughout the wedding.”
Honeymoon and Gratitude
The couple honeymooned in Aruba.
“After such an exciting wedding weekend, it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy our first days as husband and wife.”
When asked what she’ll remember most, Madeline pointed to the people.
“Having all of our favorite people together in one place to celebrate our marriage. Every event was incredible, but being surrounded by so much love made the weekend truly unforgettable. We are so grateful to everyone who helped bring our vision to life and to all of our family and friends who traveled to celebrate with us. It was the most beautiful beginning to our marriage.”
