An Elegant Garden Party with the Montgomerys

For Sheridan, enjoying a leisurely  start to her wedding day meant a relaxed lunch at Brook Hollow with her bridesmaids, followed by hair and makeup before it was time to get dressed. Sheridan slipped into her Vera Wang gown with the help of her mom. The dress had a flattering bodice and a sheer neckline detailed with floral lace. The trim of her veil incorporated the same flower details as the dress. 

To incorporate “something old”, Sheridan wore her mother’s original engagement ring from 35 years ago. Her “something borrowed” was a blue sapphire ring from Briggs’s mother. For her “something blue”, she took the tie from her grandfather who was a Holocaust survivor, and wrapped it around her bouquet. Pinned into the bouquet was Sheridan’s grandmother’s broach, another reminder of her loved ones that she carried on her wedding day. Once ready, Sheridan met Briggs on the front lawn for a first-look before the ceremony.

Then, under the oak trees of the Brook Hollow lawn, a floral Chuppah rose in a picturesque scene. The aisle was lined with floral arrangements made of white roses and hydrangeas. A grand floral arch stood at the entrance of the Brook Hollow making way to the ceremony space. Under the breezeway, A string quartet on pedestals ushered guests towards the ceremony. Flower girls carried petite moss purses from which they dropped petals down the aisle. How cute! Loved ones stood and watched in awe as Sheridan entered. She walked down the aisle towards Briggs arm-in-arm with her mother and father, a Jewish tradition. Sheridan’s favorite part of the ceremony was when the tollis was placed on her and Briggs’s shoulders and their parents held on.

An outdoor cocktail held both indoors and out followed the ceremony. Drinks, sushi and mingling on the lawn began the evening of celebration. An escort card display of gold greenery held paper doves with guests’ names and seats. This detail was especially important to Sheridan because the birds were inspired by her invitations. Mikayla with Ink and Press Co helped make all of Sheridan’s wedding paper dreams come to life. “From invitations, to menus, to handwritten gift tags for my bridal party, she came through with the most special paper details for us”. The same pattern on the invitations was used on the stage facade, making for a unique and personal touch. 

Inside, the ballroom became an elegant garden party with a modern twist. Dangling from the ceiling hung incredible arrangements of floral stems. Blush pink drapes hung from the windows making a soft warm glow in the reception space. At each entry point were arches of greenery, white flowers and pinks. Long runners of roses and hydrangeas decorated the tables. At the head table, napkins from Briggs’s grandmother were used, which hold significant value to Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery. When she passed, the napkins were handed down to Sheridan and Briggs. Originally, they were monogrammed with a simple B, but they had their friend and monogrammer Abby Smith Reardon add an S to interlock with the B. 

In the middle of the room stood the cake, a modern six-tier cake made painted with gold. The same white orchids used in Sheridan’s bouquet sprawled each tier. The groom’s cake was hand painted with fly fishermen. Atop the cake was a gold fish that looked as though it were jumping out of the water for bait. Both cakes were created by the inimitable Fancy Cakes by Lauren. 

After cutting the cake, Sheridan and Briggs toasted with special edition Waterford champagne flutes that had significant meaning to them. “Briggs’s mom has them at their lake house in wine glasses and we drank out of them the day we got engaged. I was in Round Top before the wedding with one of Briggs’s sisters and we found the same millennium Waterford pattern in 2 champagne flutes, we knew it was meant to be! I bought them and they are the ones we toasted with at our wedding.”

The Montgomery’s spent the evening on the dancefloor celebrating with their guests. If loved ones weren’t dancing the night away, you could find them in the photo booth made of hydrangeas. Large arrangements of blue hydrangeas piled on top of each other were the perfect backdrop for posing. Back on the dance floor, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery were hoisted in the air on chairs for the Hora. Guests danced around as Sheridan and Briggs held on to a handkerchief symbolizing their union. What a party! The night ended with inflatable guitars hanging from the chandelier and singing to Dixieland Delight. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery hopped into a getaway car and headed off to their honeymoon in a pathway of sparklers.
