“Chase and I first met in Austin Texas through mutual friends. We ended up getting stuck in a house together when hurricane Harvey hit Texas and haven’t gone a day without talking since!” While on vacation in Aspen, Chase got down on one knee and popped the question. “Chase and I were together for 3 years before he proposed. He proposed on top of Aspen Mountain. We spend a lot of time in Aspen when the NBA season is over every year and for most holidays so it’s a really special place for us and was perfect for the proposal.”
On July 9th, 2022, Kelly and Chase were married at the One and Only Palmilla Los Cabos. A stunning spot to exchange vows. “I’ve always envisioned my wedding in a beach setting and love Mexican culture. That might have something to do with growing up in San Antonio, Texas but I also lived in Puerto Escondido for 3 months of the year for 3 years.”
To start her wedding day, Kelly got ready in a suite at the One and Only Palmilla. She stepped into her dress with the help of her mother and sister. She wore a stunning form fitting gown that perfectly hugged her figure. “I was obsessed with the design process of this gown. The way that it gave me curves and fit perfectly was so special. I’m someone who’s clothes never fit so it really made me feel like a princess. The dress was completely different from what I originally had in mind for a wedding gown.” Kelly’s favorite moment from getting ready was when the Buford’s jeweler arrived with the meaningful necklace she would wear for her wedding day. “The necklace was Chase’s grandmother’s necklace, who passed away in 2020. The Buford’s had their family jeweler fly the necklace down and hand deliver it to me for the wedding day. It was a really special detail for me.”
The ceremony took place at the ocean’s edge on the beach of the Palmilla. The altar, a white modern frame, was decorated with white orchids, roses and feathers. Margaritas were served pre ceremony to guests from inside a Volkswagen bus. Kelly’s favorite part of the ceremony was Chase’s vows. “They were incredible. I will remember that moment for the rest of my life.” Mr. and Mrs. Buford recessed down the aisle hand and hand.
After the ceremony, Kelly and Chase met their guests to celebrate at their reception. Festivities were held at the ballroom of the resort. The inside was elegantly decorated in pink and whimsical feathers. Guests found their seats by locating the tequila shot with their name card on it. The backdrop was inspired by the look of La Loteria, Mexican Bingo. “I used to design clothing and I designed a print that I loved based on the Loteria game and so I guess it’s just something I thought would be a cool detail for the wedding!” A fun detail at the reception was the love fortune bird. “Couples could walk up to the bird and ask for their love fortune and the bird would choose their fortune and give it to them. So fun!”
For the reception, Kelly changed into her second look of the evening. It was a sparkly, nude mini dress that she paired with strappy diamond heels. “The inspiration was the dress that Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang Happy Birthday to JFK. I’ve always loved Marilyn and I wanted something fun, short, and easy to dance in. I wish I had changed into this dress earlier on during the reception. It was so comfortable and freeing!”
Such a beautiful weekend celebrating a lovely couple! Congratulations to the recently wed Mr. and Mrs. Buford!
