Good morning, campers! For Caroline, idyllic Camp Waldemar in Texas Hill Country was much more than a wedding venue, it was a family tradition that spanned generations. Caroline spent childhood summers at camp with her sisters and cousins riding horses, shooting archery, and deepening lifelong bonds.
“I have said I wanted to get married at Waldemar since I was 8 years old,” Caroline shared. When Payton and her got engaged, the first phone call was to Waldemar. “I wanted Payton to be a part of that memory I already have.”
And it wasn’t just Payton who got to make new camp memories during the wedding weekend. Guests were treated to the full summer camp experience. Caroline hosted a horseback riding bridal luncheon, while Payton caught a bass fly fishing with his friends. Caroline hit the bullseye when she showcased her skills as an American Archer. Guests played rounds of pickleball, ate s’mores, and cooled off with a dip in the Guadalupe River.
“Being able to do activities all day long was the most fun thing ever!” Caroline recalled.
When the wedding day arrived, Caroline’s team of vendors and planner from Sweet August Events transformed the camp into a bounty of blue hydrangeas cascading down staircases, climbing the cross behind the wedding ceremony, and spilling into the tented reception.
One of the most important details of the day to Caroline was her dress. Caroline’s mom works in the bridal department at Neiman Marcus. “My dress was really important to me because my mom pours her heart and soul into that every day,” Caroline shared. Her mom’s guidance paid off when they chose an exquisite Monique Lhullier gown.
What was once a family tradition for Caroline became a weekend of lasting memories for family and friends. “The wedding was really centered around entertaining our guests all weekend long,” Payton shared.
At the end of the night, the couple made their exit through a confetti of hydrangea petals. Judging by their smiles as they drove away, we’d describe them as (dare we say it?) very happy campers.
