There’s nothing like pulling the thick paper of a wedding invitation out of the envelope. It’s a sneak peak of the wedding adventure you’ll get to experience. Catherine and Turner’s guests must have been delighted to see each whimsical watercolor Big Sky, pastel wildflowers, a bright yellow Yellowstone Park bus, and even Cooper the dog. It was more than a preview of the weekend to come; it was Catherine and Turner’s bubbly personalities splashed across the stationery.
Catherine and Turner live in Colorado, surrounded by mountains and the outdoors. In choosing their wedding destination, they wanted guests to experience the beauty they get to see on a daily basis. Big Sky, with its quite literal big, blue sky, created the perfect getaway for guests. The couple couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous backdrop for their wildflower-inspired wedding.
While it was difficult to narrow down, Catherine has two favorite moments of the day. The first is walking down the aisle with her dad. (The second is being stuck in an elevator, but more on that later.) The couple opted out of a first look so they could see each other for the first time as Catherine came down the aisle. From the lodge, Catherine and her dad watched as the wedding party walked down the aisle in twos. When it was her turn, “We talked the whole time because we didn’t want to cry. He told me stories about when I was younger while we were walking. It was so sweet and cute.”
Imagine seeing Turner for the first time that day, waiting with the bridal party beneath a kaleidoscope of pastel wildflowers. Catherine’s mom, wedding planner Abbie Oswalt, and The Floral Bar worked together to bring the wildflower vision to life in spectacular displays at the outdoor ceremony and in the reception.
When it came to planning, Catherine had three priorities that needed to be perfect: the groom (check), the dress (a stunning Mira Zwillenger), and the cake.
Well, make that 12 cakes. “My favorite thing in the world is probably cake,” Catherine laughed. Elle’s Belles Bakery had their work cut out when Catherine ordered nearly every flavor.
Perhaps it was all that sugar that energized the couple and the guests for the dance party. Catherine’s only regret from the day is that it didn’t last longer. “I learned that I have a never ending social battery,” she laughed. And despite being exhausted by the end of the night, no one wanted it to end.
And actually, it didn’t quite end for the bride and groom. “We left the reception to circle back to the hotel. Then we hopped in the elevator, and something went wrong and we got stuck!” Catherine shared. With the door stuck open about four inches, Catherine and Turner were stuck in the elevator for an hour and a half until the fire department was able to get them out. A wedding disaster? Not at all.
“We just laughed the whole time,” Catherine said. “We talked about our favorite moments of the day as the alarm went off in the background. Our friends handed us pizza pockets through the door,” she laughed. They were finally extracted, but not before getting a photo in fire department issued safety goggles (they had to break the door) and their full wedding attire.
For a couple who can bring the fun out of any situation, Catherine and Turner passed their first marriage test with flying colors, perfectly aligned to their colorful wedding.
