Katie and John were married in a dreamy and romantic wedding celebration in Dallas on the 19th of November. Design and planning for the Detamores wedding day was executed by Haylie Paige Events, who incorporated bright pinks, blues and oranges into the decor at Brook Hollow. Katie had seen quite a bit of Haylie’s work in Dallas and was excited to work with her. “I loved all the weddings she had done and we had heard so many great things. She was a great match from the start and was incredible the day of and keeping everything on track. She put together the wedding of my dreams and made everything run smoothly!” Katie wanted something different from most weddings she had seen, and Jackson Durham helped to make that happen. She said, “I have always been a blue person but also love a pop of color. I wanted to have a variety of colors in my flowers and decor and really make those colors pop. My linens and accents brought in the blue while my flowers were truly amazing, and my vision came to life with all the color in it.” For flowers, Katie had a strong sense of what she wanted. “I knew I wanted a floral arch at the church entrance to be a statement piece because it was the first thing guests would see and I loved the green and white look for the church. I wanted the reception to be different from the church with more color. I knew I wanted flowers on the ceiling and stage and the additional arch there was stunning (it was seriously one of the most amazing arches I have ever seen). As guests entered the reception, they had tiered shelves holding glasses of champagne, flowers and candles that were elegant and I remember someone saying when they walked into our reception you were hit with the aroma of flowers. Jackson Durham brought in all my favorite types and colors of flowers – they are incredible.”
Many elements in reference to Katie and John’s college years were incorporated into their wedding. “We met at UT so we definitely had a lot of things dedicated to our time there. We sang the UT Fight song on stage together with all of our friends” Katie and John had an entire room dedicated to an Austin favorite, Matt’s El Rancho. The Detamore’s frequently eat at Matt’s and wanted to introduce their guests to their famous knock-out martini along with spicy ranch waters and tanqueray and tonic. Katie and John’s cake was designed by Panini Bakery. It was a replica of the UT Tower and incorporated Bevo and figurines modeled after them!
The reception dance floor was packed the whole night, with Jessie’s Girls playing hits for guests to enjoy. Katie’s favorite moment from the reception was dancing to the band surrounded by family and friends. Confetti fluttered down as the final song played, “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. “It was awesome to be dancing with John in the middle of the dancefloor to one of my favorite songs with all of our best friends surrounding us. We still laugh about how cool that moment was and how I felt like it was a dream.”
Festivities continued on at Brook Hollow for an after party with Pete’s Dueling Pianos. For this portion of the evening, Katie wore a Retrofete Sequined chiffon mini dress and customized Miron Crosby boots. “I ended up finding the dress last minute and loved how fun and different it was from my ceremony dress. The boots I customized with my new initials and wedding date in blue with white stars. The boots I knew would be something I could wear many times and always have the sweet sentiment of our wedding date.” Katie and John capped the night off singing to “Piano Man” surrounded by their friends. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Detamore!!
