Katie and Nick’s wedding took place just steps away from their proposal spot on the SMU campus, at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. After, guests were enveloped in a sea of florals at The Adolphus for an evening of sweet celebration. “We really wanted to bring in a delicate summer flair,” Katie says.
Katie and Nick exchanged private vows in the empty reception ballroom before the evening flurry began. Later, when they re-entered the ballroom as newlyweds, she held that memory close.
Her gown’s basket waist mirrored her mother’s own wedding dress. A hummingbird pendant embellished her bouquet, in memory of her late grandfather. She wore a petite gold diamond bracelet gifted to her by Nick, “Diamonds last forever, and so does our love,” he declared and then a delicate pinky ring from her parents.
Katie loves florals, and she grew up roaming through her grandmother’s garden and enjoying a constantly fresh vase of flowers in the home. The couple’s wedding crest was rich with personal meaning, featuring symbols from Nick’s college and Katie’s dance background. And their guest book mimicked The New York Times, a reminder of their long-distance chapter in New York.
Katie’s favorite photo from the day says it all: the two of them laughing, eyes on the camera, and radiating joy. “I want to plaster it everywhere,” she says.
