Mary Holbrook and Steven Tyler Johnson went to both high school and college together, but their love story did not begin until six years after college graduation at a mutual friend’s wedding. You know what they say: “Birds of a feather flock together!” This saying not only describes Mary and Tyler’s story, but also the sophisticated elements they incorporated into their Sea Island soiree on October 10, 2020.
Mary grew up visiting Sea Island so it was a special place for her and Tyler to say ‘I do’. The intimate affair gave way to countless unique and personal touches beyond just the venue. Bridesmaids and the bride wore Hill House Home nap dresses in the bride’s favorite color pink before slipping into floor length gowns of fashionable variety in the same palette. The bride wore Mark Ingram Collection and met Tyler for the first time wedding day at the Avenue of the Oaks overhung with Spanish Moss before meeting each other again at the altar.
The couple took vows in front of idyllic swaying palm trees, ocean views, and a cross made of green moss and oyster shells. The scene was quintessentially Southern. Up from the beach, a bagpipe musician played announcing the couple for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Johnson! Their wide smiles and glee coming back down the aisle reminded all in attendance the reason for the celebration!
Britt Wood Designs set a whimsical, lush table on the patio at Ocean Forest Golf Club for the evening. Rose Medallion and Southern bird porcelain, tall tapered candals, and antique silver accents were tucked between tropical floral set on a hot pink table linen, naturally. The newlywed couple entered the dinner and swayed into a ‘first dance’ before taking a seat at the long, family style table. Before toasts, Mary slipped into a Mestiza party gown in a fitting white and green pattern. The intimate, candlelit dinner allowed for memorable toasts amongst many clinked glasses and laughter from all. The couple cut the Key Lime flavored wedding cake and enjoyed desserts topped with sparklers before whisking away in an open convertible which drove off on a sparkler-lined driveway path.
The Sea Island soiree was as sophisticated as it was sentimental. Cheers to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson!!!
