Overview
The John Cain Summer Internship is an immersive, project-based program designed for college students interested in the worlds of events, fashion, photography, and luxury brand marketing.
Interns will gain hands-on experience inside a leading photography studio while working alongside a team that produces editorial-quality work for clients and for the John Cain Magazine.
Throughout the ten-week program, interns will participate in the entire creative arc of a professional editorial production—from the initial concept and creative direction to planning, production, photography, editing, and ultimately seeing their work published in a printed magazine feature.
The internship culminates in a fully produced photo shoot that each intern contributes to planning and executing.
Internship Experience
Interns will participate in the complete lifecycle of a professional editorial photo production, including:
Concept & Creative Development
- Brainstorming editorial themes and visual concepts
- Researching inspiration, styling, and visual references
- Developing mood boards and creative direction
Production & Event Planning
- Coordinating details for a styled photo shoot
- Assisting with vendor outreach and communication
- Supporting planning logistics including location, wardrobe, florals, and design elements
Marketing & Brand Strategy
- Learning how editorial content is developed for magazine and digital platforms
- Understanding audience engagement, social media storytelling, and brand positioning
- Assisting with behind-the-scenes content and marketing materials
On-Set Photo Shoot Experience
- Supporting the John Cain Photography team during a professional editorial shoot
- Observing lighting, composition, and direction of subjects
- Assisting with styling, set preparation, and shoot logistics
Post-Production & Editorial Selection
- Reviewing images with the photography team
- Learning the editing and selection process used for publication
- Understanding how images are curated for print and editorial storytelling
The program concludes with interns contributing to a final editorial feature published in the John Cain Photography Magazine, providing a tangible portfolio piece and real-world publishing experience.

We are seeking motivated college students who are organized and excited to learn in a fast-paced creative environment.
Strong candidates typically possess:
- Leadership experience in academic, campus, or extracurricular settings
- A strong interest in events, fashion, photography, or luxury brand marketing
- Enthusiasm for collaboration and problem-solving
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Interest in content creation, storytelling, and social media
No prior professional experience in photography or events is required—initiative and enthusiasm to learn are the most important qualities.
