The age of frivolous and frilly bridesmaid dresses died with the new millennium (thank goodness). Since the beginning of John Cain Photography, we have seen bride’s stick to long, simplified gowns in tulle or satin with a primarily uniform look—same dress, same bouquet—at least Dallas brides, anyways. Specific colors of bridesmaid gowns do trend, but many hues and styles are somewhat trend-proof. Unlike the 80’s where bridesmaids wore large skirted taffeta gowns with a matching hat, modern brides curate their bridal party attire to very subtly accent their gown and wedding palette.
Brides like Emily Barnett who wed at the Joule chose soft gray bridesmaid dresses which accented the modern aesthetic of the environment. Margaret Wolcott married days after Valentine’s Day so her bridesmaids arrived in shades of red. Haley Hall’s spring wedding at home was abundant in floral so her bridesmaids wore pink, but her sister and mother wore a beautiful floral pattern.
