Appropriately enough, Shannon and Emory’s story began at the library. After meeting in their freshman year at Furman University, the two formed a years-long friendship that eventually became something much more.
The Hessens called many places home as a military family, but Hilton Head Island was a constant in Shannon’s life. Having spent many vacations visiting family on the island, Hilton Head earned a special place in Shannon’s heart and was the obvious choice for her and Emory’s wedding destination.
The Liberty Oak Tree in Harbour Town framed the wedding party and groom as they eagerly awaited the bride. Shannon unambiguously chose “Snow Scene” from “Father of the Bride” to be played as her father walked her down the aisle. Spanish moss swayed in the ocean breeze as the couple exchanged their vows, and an eruption of applause greeted them as they shared their first kiss as husband and wife. White rose petals were cast onto the delphinium lined aisle as Shannon and Emory made their exit.
In a manifestation of Shannon’s childhood dreams, the couple celebrated their wedding with their loved ones in a sailcloth tent on the 18th hole of the Harbour Town Links Golf Course. The Harbour Town lighthouse helped set the scene and sat just beyond the custom corn hole boards.
Shannon and Emory spent the evening hand in hand, mingling, dancing and even sharing a late night Bojangles Boberry biscuit (a nod to an anniversary tradition). The two shared a private last dance before embracing family and being whisked away into married life!
Wishing all the best to the new Rogers’!
