Ellie and Sam’s love story began in a freshman Latin class at the University of Alabama. While neither could have imagined exactly where that first meeting would lead, Sam remembers always feeling as though he “couldn’t picture life without Ellie,” a quiet certainty that eventually became the foundation for everything that followed.
For Ellie, a fourth-generation Dallasite, there was never much question about where they would be married. Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where faith has long been central to her life, provided the perfect setting before the celebration continued at Dallas Country Club. Although they admitted they had little idea what their wedding would ultimately look like while planning, they embraced each decision together. “We were so in sync for every one of those decisions,” Sam shared. “I don’t think there was a single thing where we’d ever disagreed.” That shared vision came to life through timeless blue-and-white details, elegant florals, a custom wedding crest, and thoughtful nods to the places and people who shaped their story.
Ellie approached finding her wedding gown with the same confidence she brought to the rest of the planning process. “I want the biggest Southern belle dress that you have,” she laughed. The result was a breathtaking ball gown finished with a dramatic bow, perfectly complemented by her grandmother’s pearl earrings and a pearl-studded veil that reflected her lifelong love of classic elegance.
One of the most emotional moments came before the ceremony, when Ellie shared a first look with her father. Although he had been part of the dress selection months earlier, seeing his daughter fully dressed on her wedding day was something entirely different. “When Ellie came walking down… she was just a princess… I looked at Mike and he just welled up… it was the sweetest moment ever” Mrs. Steindorf shared. The couple intentionally chose not to see one another before the ceremony. Instead, Sam waited at the altar as Ellie walked down the aisle, seeing her for the first time only when she reached the front of the church.
Music became one of the defining threads of the evening. Their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s The Stars Fell on Alabama paid tribute to where their story began, while the reception itself held one final surprise. Knowing Ellie’s lifelong love of 1940s music and classic big band, her parents secretly arranged for Hunter Sullivan and his orchestra to open the reception before the evening transitioned into a full dance party. The surprise left the couple speechless and created one of the night’s most memorable moments, seamlessly blending timeless sophistication with joyful celebration.
As the reception continued, outfit changes, a cigar lounge, and nonstop dancing kept the celebration going well into the night. Even their beloved gray cat, Earl, made an appearance through custom matchboxes waiting for guests throughout the evening. From the first notes of Frank Sinatra to the sounds of a surprise big band orchestra, Ellie and Sam’s wedding celebrated more than beautiful details. It honored where they came from, the family who surrounded them, and the traditions they hope to carry forward together for generations to come.
