Caroline and Will’s journey began at a Debutante Ball during Caroline’s sophomore year in college in 2016. They became acquainted as they both went to the University of Oklahoma and it turned out that they were neighbors. His fraternity house was right next door to her sorority house. Their paths diverged for a while as Caroline went to study abroad in Italy. But fate had more in store for them. “When I came back to OU, we bumped into each other at a bar and he asked me on a date. I turned him down at first, I guess you could say I was playing hard to get, but he kept asking and eventually we went on a date and we have not separated since,” Caroline reminisced. Their bond grew even stronger when Will stood by Caroline through her battle with cancer, solidifying their love and commitment to each other.
Will popped the question while they were on a trip to Spain. The beautiful city of Barcelona served as the backdrop to their intimate proposal. Wedding planning was soon underway for the soon-to-be Cohns!
When it came to selecting a venue for their wedding, Caroline and Will had specific criteria in mind. They needed a place that could accommodate over 200 guests and was easily accessible, Brook Hollow Golf Club fit the bill perfectly. “We were thrilled because we have known many people who had their weddings there and it always looked beautiful. It was so much fun to plan the cocktail hour in the Oak Room and the reception in the Main Hall,” Caroline shared.
Caroline’s love for romantic period piece movies heavily influenced the theme of their wedding. “One of my most favorite period piece movies is Marie Antoinette with Kristen Dunst because I love that all the costumes and décor in the movie are so French and floral with bright pastels; so that is what we wanted for the theme,” she explained. The wedding was a visual feast of white, light pink, light blue, and lavender, transforming the venue into an garden-like paradise. “We were so shocked to see it all come together after a year of planning and, I have to say, it was so beautiful.”
Flowers and candles were at the heart of the décor, creating a romantic ambiance. Caroline’s attention to detail was evident in every aspect. “We wanted the cocktail hour to look like a French outdoor garden and the reception to emulate Versailles,” she said. This vision was brought to life with elements like a real fountain, a tree adorned with hanging glass balls, and a gold stage with exposed chandeliers. “The custom French floral wallpaper we brought in gave the space more interest. It was all better than we could have imagined.”
The wedding was filled with personal touches that made it uniquely Caroline and Will’s. Caroline’s mother surprised them by designing the gentleman’s bar to resemble the bar where Caroline and Will first met. “She had the exact bar sign replicated and hung it on the outside of the room, complete with the same blue lighting and chalkboards with our signature drinks,” Caroline shared.
Their beloved cat, Cairo, also had a special role in the wedding. “We had the ice cream stand we called ‘The Cohn’s Cones’ and at the same time we had ‘Cairo’s Meow’ passed out, which was tiny espresso martinis with cocktail napkins with her face on them. It was so fun and I love how these details made the entire night so personal to Will and I’s story and our life.”
One of Caroline’s favorite moments was walking down the aisle with her father. “We were all worried he wouldn’t be able to walk me down the aisle due to his recent injury to his ankle, and seeing Will at the end of the aisle smiling at me was unforgettable,” she recalled. Caroline fondly reflects on walking down the aisle and seeing all of her nearest and dearest smiling as she entered.
The reception was filled with joyous memories, but the first dance and Will’s surprise drumming performance stood out. “Not many people know that Will is a very natural talented drummer and people went crazy when they saw him perform ‘Burning Love.'” Hardly anyone left the dance floor for the remainder of the night. “I was so obsessed with the band, Jessie’s Girls. I had seen them at our friend’s wedding 2 years ago and I made up my mind that they would be the band I wanted for my own wedding. They gave such an incredible, high energy, performance, that no one wanted to leave and people didn’t even return to their seats to take a break and have a piece of cake! They made the wedding such a hit and I am so grateful to have had them there.” Caroline reflects.
We are honored to have captured the Cohns’ wedding weekend. It truly was the most beautiful day with such a happy couple! Congratulations Caroline + Will!
