With a background in planning and a natural decisiveness, Caroline approached wedding planning with Grayson with a clear vision, allowing each choice to feel instinctive rather than overwhelming. An intimate guest list shaped the experience, creating space for something deeply personal and unrushed.
The setting followed that same instinct. Drawn to the idea of cliffs meeting the ocean, Caroline initially envisioned Europe but ultimately found a closer parallel in Saint Martin. There, a property overlooking the water offered the exact landscape she had imagined: dramatic, expansive, and quietly cinematic.
Color became a natural extension of place. Bright pinks, corals, and greens, layered through paper goods and textiles, echoed the vibrancy of the island without overwhelming it. Custom linens and hand-selected details carried a sense of playfulness, while still feeling cohesive. The design never strayed into excess; instead, it felt considered, each element reinforcing the tone of the weekend.
That same intentionality guided Caroline’s approach to fashion. After exploring traditional options, she ultimately chose to have her gown custom made, selecting a fabric that subtly mirrored coral: an understated nod to the surroundings. The silhouette felt right for the setting, a reflection of her belief that a wedding’s environment should shape its aesthetic. “I feel like where you are determines the attire,” she notes, a perspective that quietly informed the entire celebration.
Caroline wore her sister’s veil, carried a ring from her mother, and incorporated heirloom pieces that connected generations: from a pearl-inlay ring box belonging to her great-grandparents to small, meaningful touches embroidered into the day. Even the ceremony held a deeper layer, with “Soli Deo Gloria” stitched into both her bouquet ribbon and Grayson’s jacket; a quiet expression of faith anchoring the celebration.
On the wedding day, that sense of ease carried through, even when plans shifted. As a light rain approached during the ceremony, Caroline’s instinct to adapt took over. What might have felt like disruption instead became something memorable: guests gathering under a covered terrace, vows exchanged in close proximity, the moment somehow more intimate because of the change. “It was perfect,” she says simply, the kind of certainty that only comes when expectations fall away and the meaning of the day remains.
The celebration continued overlooking the ocean, where dinner, toasts, and a champagne saber marked the beginning of the evening. Their first dance, set to a reggae rendition of Can’t Help Falling in Love, felt in step with the setting, relaxed and joyful rather than overly rehearsed. By the time the evening came to a close, the day had unfolded much like their relationship itself: thoughtful, unforced, and guided by instinct. Not every moment went exactly as planned, but each one felt right, settling into place with a kind of natural rhythm that can’t be designed, only embraced.
