Some weddings are defined by their destination. Others are defined by the people who gather there. For Lane and WB, their wedding weekend at The Ocean Club in the Bahamas was both.
Long before there was a ring, Lane knew exactly where she wanted to say “I do.” Years earlier, while visiting The Ocean Club with her family, she wandered through the property’s iconic Cloisters and immediately envisioned exchanging vows among the centuries-old stone arches. While the turquoise waters first drew her to the Bahamas, it was the unexpected blend of lush tropical beauty and European architecture that made the setting feel unlike anywhere else.
Drawing from her background as an interior designer, Lane envisioned a celebration that felt more like wandering through a tropical garden than attending a traditional destination wedding. Rather than leaning into expected shades of blue, she embraced chartreuse greens, coral pinks, rich textures, and whimsical florals that felt organic, as though the celebration had simply grown from the landscape surrounding it. “I didn’t want flowers that were too picture perfect,” she shared. “I wanted whimsical… different textures and shapes. I wanted it to kind of feel like you’re in a garden.”
Wedding morning unfolded with the same sense of ease that carried throughout the weekend. Family and friends drifted in and out of the villa while Lane spent a quiet morning with her parents before meeting with the couple’s pastor overlooking the ocean. It became an unexpected pause amid the excitement; a chance to reflect on their story together before the day’s celebrations officially began.
As Lane and her dad began walking down the aisle, Lane’s dramatic cathedral veil caught on the historic stone steps and slipped from her hair. What could have felt like a stressful moment instead became one of the sweetest memories of the day. “My dad looked at me and said, ‘Boo, it’s okay. This is how it’s supposed to be.’ So we just started laughing.”
Beneath the Cloisters, surrounded by those they loved most, Lane and WB exchanged vows in a ceremony made even more meaningful by the presence of the pastor who had known WB since childhood. Personal stories, heartfelt prayers, and moments of laughter filled the ceremony, creating an atmosphere that felt both deeply sacred and wonderfully relaxed.
“My mom felt strongly about the day we legally got married would be our anniversary, and thankfully the Bahamas recognizes U.S. marriage requirements, so after a few extra steps, including waiting periods and a licensed Bahamian officiant, we were able to make it official on our wedding day.”
As guests made their way to the reception, they stepped into a space that perfectly reflected Lane’s original vision. A garden-inspired tent welcomed everyone with towering floral chandeliers, layered textures, lush greenery, and soft lighting that transformed the evening into something that felt timeless yet distinctly Bahamian.
The evening flowed effortlessly from heartfelt to celebratory. Lane and WB shared their first dance to This Magic Moment by The Drifters before changing into custom after-party looks that embraced the playful spirit of the islands. As Junkanoo performers surprised guests and led everyone onto the dance floor, the celebration took on an entirely new energy, filling the night with music, color, and joyful spontaneity.
When asked what she’ll remember most about the weekend, Lane’s answer had little to do with flowers, fashion, or even the breathtaking setting. “My takeaway was to have all of your closest family and friends in your favorite place. I just felt such an outpour of love. I was crying when we left because everything was so perfect. I just didn’t want it to end.”
Perhaps that’s what made this Ocean Club wedding so unforgettable. It wasn’t simply the destination, the thoughtful design, or the unforgettable celebration, it was the overwhelming feeling of bringing everyone they loved together in the place that had captured Lane’s heart years before. The Bahamas simply became the backdrop for a story that was always about the people!
