Shelby and Joe’s wedding weekend in WaterColor carried the kind of joy that can’t be manufactured. The kind that spills out in laughter during bridal portraits, dance floor singalongs, and quiet moments on a porch overlooking the festivities before everything officially begins.
From the beginning, Shelby knew exactly how she wanted the weekend to feel. Not overly formal. Not overly trendy. Just beautiful, welcoming, and filled with intention. Green-and-white florals softened with icy blush tones brought the entire setting to life beneath the palms and coastal light, while custom watercolor birds, a nod to their last name, became the signature detail woven throughout the celebration. The dance floor, invitation liner, stage backdrop, and bar all carried the motif in a way that felt thoughtful instead of thematic.
And then there was the house.
Perched directly beside the venue, the sprawling beach house became the heartbeat of the entire weekend. Shelby’s family intentionally chose it so her 87-year-old grandmother could comfortably enjoy the festivities from the porch while watching the venue come together below. The wedding morning unfolded exactly the way destination weddings are meant to: slowly, joyfully, and surrounded by everyone you love under one roof. Shelby wore a striking textured gown by Sarah Nouri that immediately became one of those dresses guests continue talking about long after the wedding ends. The high neckline, sculptural silhouette, and intricate bolero felt editorial yet timeless against the soft coastal backdrop. “I’m not an emotional person,” she admitted. “But I started crying. I loved it.”
And of course, there were Kenny and Rosey.
The couple’s beloved dachshunds became instant stars of the ceremony, trotting down the aisle exactly as Shelby predicted they would despite everyone doubting the plan. “If you know me and Joe, you know our wiener dogs,” she laughed. “They had to be a part of it.”
As the ceremony ended and golden light settled across WaterColor, guests filtered into an outdoor cocktail hour beneath café lights before the reception tent revealed itself at dusk. Inside, chandeliers glowed overhead while layered florals climbed across tables beneath the sailcloth ceiling. The atmosphere struck that elusive balance between refined Southern elegance and a genuinely great party.
And it was a party.
The band kept the dance floor packed all night, from a full-bridal-party rendition of “Pink Pony Club” to Shelby surprising her mom onstage with a custom version of “Stacy’s Mom” rewritten as “Shelby’s Mom.” But somewhere between the champagne tower, sunset portraits on the beach, and dancing beneath the chandeliers, the magnitude of the day finally settled in. “I think literally when we were doing the vows,” Shelby shared. “I was like, oh my gosh… this is it. This is amazing. This is the best day ever.”
And maybe that’s what made the entire weekend unforgettable. Beneath all the incredible design details, the layered florals, the watercolor motifs, and the candlelight, this wedding never lost sight of what mattered most. “I don’t think it could have gone any better,” Shelby said. “It was perfect.”
