Delaney and Gordon’s wedding at Highland Park United Methodist Church, followed by their ceremony at Hotel Swexan in Dallas, was an elegant blend of traditional and modern style. Because of her career in the wedding industry, Delaney was a bride with a list of top-tier vendors she was ready to call. “I knew we’d be in good hands with Todd Events,” she shared. “As soon as I secured my preacher and photographer, I knew the entire wedding would fall into place.”
She was right. The day fell into place graced with her impeccable taste and sweet moments shared with family and friends. Under towering ceilings and ornate stained glass, the warmth and intimacy of the couple’s vows to one another softened the grandeur of Highland Park UMC’s sanctuary. After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed a private cocktail hour together in their hotel suite before joining the reception. It was Delaney’s favorite moment of her wedding day. “They had our appetizers, signature cocktails, and a bottle of champagne waiting for us. It was the first time that day we got to talk and hug and have a real moment together.”
At the reception, the transition from the stately church to the hotel’s checkered floors and gold accents was seamless. Even Delaney’s bridal gown, custom from local designer Michael Faircloth, made the transition from ceremony to reception when she removed an off-the-shoulder cuff for her first dances. The bride’s color palette, shimmering creams, golds, and soft blues was inspired by an oyster shell. She brought it to life in the Swexton’s ballroom with gorgeous white orchids, glass accents, and the champagne colored dance floor.
The day was accented with personal details. Delaney’s bouquet featured calla lilies, her mother’s bridal flower, and garden roses, Gordon’s mother’s bridal flower. “I wanted to carry on their wonderful legacies of marriage into mine.” Delaney wore her grandmother’s ring, which her grandfather gave her in high school nearly seventy years ago. It was part of a tradition of each granddaughter wearing the ring on her wedding day, to bless the couple with a long and happy marriage.
As a late night spin on dessert, the couple passed out milk and cookie shots (for the bride) or bourbon and chocolate shots (for the groom.) The evening closed after the couple changed out of their wedding attire into customized Astros jerseys with their shared last name. A true event planner at heart, Delaney wasn’t ready to display Gordon’s love for the Astros on the centerpieces. The custom jersey was a perfect surprise from the bride to the groom to end a night of family tradition, contemporary elegance, and fun.
