“It sounds crazy… But Hunter and I met through Jimmy Fallon!” Whitney and Hunter were both seniors at the University of Texas, when they were brought together by none other than Jimmy Fallon. In November of 2019, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” went to the University of Texas at Austin to film their first ever show at a college campus. “Hunter was a member of Silver Spurs, the organization that takes care of the UT Mascot, Bevo, and I was a Texas Cheerleader, and they chose members from both organizations to be extras for the show.” While on set for a very long day, the two got to chatting and immediately hit it off. Just a few days after their TV debut, their paths would cross again. “We had a home football game that Saturday and the head of the Spurs organization, Ricky Brennes, came over to me and asked if I was dating anyone. When I told him no, he told me that he wanted to set me up with a guy in Spurs and started going into great detail about this man. When I asked him who he was talking about, he said “Hunter McKenna!” I told Ricky what a small world it was because we had JUST met the other day at the Jimmy Fallon taping and… YES! I would be interested, so please pass it along. Apparently, Ricky put in a good word, because Hunter and I started talking that very next day and the rest was history!”
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Whitney and Hunter set out for brunch to meet Whitney’s family…or so she thought. Whitney was under the assumption that she was headed to a celebratory brunch for her brother, but in actuality, Hunter was taking her to a quiet spot in the park to pop the question. “That morning, we got in the car and started to drive to Sadelle’s and Hunter said, “it’s such a pretty day, let’s take the scenic route!” I genuinely didn’t think anything of it as it was such a beautiful day and one of the first times it was spring weather.” After a few “wrong turns”, they pulled over to take a walk, where Hunter had the perfect set up for his proposal. “It was the most surprised I have ever been and genuinely one of the best days we have ever had together!”
Following the proposal, they took a moment to absorb the excitement, and Hunter told Whitney about all of his plans and preparation getting to this moment. “I learned all about when he had talked to my parents, when he had gone to design the ring, what went into planning the engagement, and about all of the fun details that went into him pulling off such a big surprise.” After spending time alone, they joined their families to celebrate at Mercat Bistro. The evening ended with a party at the Webb’s house with family and friends. “It was the best day ever and still feels like such a dream come true… The day was so perfect, and I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any other way.”
We are so grateful to have been a part of Whitney and Hunter’s proposal, and we can’t wait to celebrate the future McKennas next year!!
