Glam Garden Dream: The Enchanting Wedding of Alex and William
Alex and William’s wedding was nothing short of magical. Just as the invitations proclaimed, the “One Enchanted Evening” unfolded in a series of whimsical, extravagant, and sentimental surprises.
The wedding ceremony took place on Alex’s parents’ anniversary and was held in the same church where they were married. The reception, an unparalleled Glam Garden celebration, took place in the garden of Alex’s childhood home. Both venues were enriched by years of family gatherings and cherished memories.
A wedding of this scale doesn’t come together without a great deal of planning. “Charmingly detailed,” is one way Alex would describe the wedding. During their 18-month engagement, Alex, William, and their families focused their energy perfecting every detail of the weekend.
“We curated every moment and really did thoughtfully consider every stage of the evening, every setting, every vignette in bits of the day, almost to the minute,” shared Liz, Alexandra’s mother.
And truly, no undertaking was too large for this wedding crew. From planting pink, autumn blooming trees and perennials in the garden a year in advance to building a hydraulic table and air-conditioned space in the garage to hold the skyscraping cake, the family prepared to host an unforgettable event.
Here is perhaps the best way to illustrate the lengths the family went to create magic: they hand-delivered every invitation to guests throughout the Kansas City Metroplex. Straight from a scene in Bridgerton, guests knew the moment they opened the invitation that the event would be fabulous.
Ceremony: A Family Tradition
The morning leading up the ceremony was heartfelt and sentimental. In a touching tribute, Alex’s mother transformed her own wedding dress into a beautiful robe for Alex to wear as she got ready for the day. Alex’s father Greg gifted Alex and her mother with matching diamond earrings.
Later, Greg walked Alex down the aisle at Village Presbyterian Church. Alex’s mom recalled that moment as her favorite of the day. “I’ll always remember seeing Greg walking his only daughter down the aisle the same time day that my father walked me down the aisle in the same place 33 years earlier.”
Alex wore the stunning Fabiana gown by Ghalia Lahav, with floral motifs and a hint of sparkle. “When I put it on, I was like, this is giving glam garden. I love the floral elements and the little bit of sparkle,” she recalled. On the other end of the aisle, William waited in a handsome Tom Ford tux.
Cocktail Hour: A Whimsical Affair
When the ceremony ended, guests were transported, both literally and figuratively, to the enchanted garden for cocktail hour at the Maday family home. What was already a beautifully manicured garden transformed into one from a dream. It burst with fantastic life, whimsy, and color.
A butterfly release, a cherished Maday family tradition, heralded the start of festivities. Vocalist Calvin Arsenia played the harp, while the performance art group Quixotic added an element of delightful surprise; live performers became living flowers–ethereal garden dancers to welcome guests.
The food and drink was designed to mirror art and nature. Charcuterie swings suspended from trees as servers in twos carried each end of large wooden hors d’oeuvres trays. Live painters created custom art for guests as they enjoyed champagne from a lollipop champagne tower, topped with a live dancer. Even the couple’s beloved dog, Katy, joined in the magic.
As the hour concluded, the Back Alley brass band paraded guests to the reception tent where the energy, already buzzing, crescendoed.
Reception: A GLAM Celebration
Inside the grand tent, the reception glowed. Elegant floral chandeliers hung over long tables, covered in the couple’s personalized toile lines. The custom toile, featuring their favorite things, was a wedding motif that could be found on the invitations, website, cocktail tables, and even William’s jacket.
The electric string quartet Phat Strad dazzled the crowd, and the band Party on the Moon set the tone for a night of dancing. More Quixotic performers, including a mirrored artist, elevating the energy on the dance floor. Midway through the evening, Alex changed into a stunning reception dress, the Avery by Monique Lhuillier, characterized by a delicate baby’s breath pattern and a detachable cape.
Guests were further welcomed into their GLAM crew (GLAM is the Maday family’s initials and well-known acronym) with the distribution of Dub Club hats, featuring a “W” initial for William’s official initiation into the GLAM squad.
Confetti cannons erupted, leaving lasting memories of a night filled with spectacle, glamor, and magic.
After Party: Continuing the Revelry
With a celebration of this scale, why end at the reception? The after-party awaited guests at the Kansas City Country Club. Late night snacks featured a beloved childhood staple for the couple, a famed pasta bar they’d each enjoyed growing up in Kansas City. Guests also munched on cheesy tater tots, an appetizer the couple ordered on their first date.
Quixotic performers returned, dazzling attendees with mesmerizing LED flow performances and fire dancing. Hot pink balloons, disco balls, and iridescent sparkle capped off a night that dazzled, from the moment guests opened their invitations to the afterparty DJ’s final song.
Conclusion: A Journey of Love
Every detail of Alex and William’s wedding was a testament to their meticulous planning, blending extravagance with personal touches and cherished memories from their families and shared hometown. Their Glam Garden wedding was not just an event; it was a show-stopping expression of love, family, and tradition that will resonate through Kansas City (possibly through Earth). A true celebration of the couple as they begin their new life together.
